General Manager's Corner Updates
Hello South Yuba County residents! I'm happy to report that Flood Season officially ended on April 15th. District field operations are now focused on vegetation control ahead of the approaching fire season. During the months of May through July, you may notice our crews mowing service roads alongside our levees and drainage infrastructure areas to ensure vegetation is maintained to minimize fire fuels. In addition, we do the best we can to prioritize District lands that abut residential properties first to help reduce fire risk. Although, the District does instigate controlled burn activities from time to time which may include the burning of brush piles and certain stretches of levee. This is also the time of year when the nicer weather draws more people outdoors for recreation. Most non-motorized recreation such as walking or biking is welcome on the RD784 urban levees as well as throughout the internal drainage system as long as no trespassing occurs on private lands. RD784 does not allow camping, horseback riding, or hunting anywhere in the District. Please report any unauthorized motor vehicles observed on the levees or around any District drainage laterals or detention basins immediately to the Yuba County Sheriff's Department (530) 749-7777.

Canals and Ditches:
Reclamation District 784 maintains over 60 miles of canals, ditches and drainage basins through which storm water is moved to pumping stations where it is pumped into adjacent rivers and out of the District. Garbage and debris dumped into drainage ditches have caused blockages and can cause localized flooding. If you observe anyone dumping objects into any drainage canals, please contact the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office at 530-749-7777 to report the crime.
Public Levee Access:
Not all levees are owned by the public. Some levees are located on private property and RD784 personnel can only access private property because the State of California holds easement rights for levee maintenance and operations. RD784 cannot give permission for anyone to trespass on private property of another. The following list of levees is provided in the attachment below for information on which levees are open to the public for pedestrian access only. Unauthorized motor vehicles are prohibited on all levees.
